Please note that this list is a summary of the taxes that have been newly added to remittance. For detailed information on each tax and the tax type, please refer to the How Taxes are Handled in Direct help article where you can select the specific state to determine how and if these taxes will apply to you.

Also, each tax may have a different effective date that we began retaining and remitting on your behalf. Be sure to review taxes to determine if they are pass-through on specific bookings, upsells, etc. or if they are remitted on your behalf. You can review this in a few ways:

  • Each individual reservation booking and financial description will note the taxes and types that were charged and if they are pass-through to you

  • Go to Metrics → Exports → Taxes in your Hospitable dashboard to see a breakdown of the taxes and types that were remitted on your behalf or pass-through to you

We understand that with the VRBO official integration, tax remittance is ever more important for our customers to effectively manage their business. We are working diligently in the background to expand to as many local jurisdictions as possible.

While we cannot provide an exact timeline on when a new tax will be added (primarily given the structure of jurisdictions and registration policies), we are focused to provide expansion updates in a timely and more frequent manner. When assessing our roadmap and timing, we consider Direct Premium/VRBO booking volumes and taxes that VRBO already remits to be able to pair with your current processes. Our goal is to achieve tax remittance in as many jurisdictions that we can!

Any other applicable taxes that are not listed or previously communicated will continue to be collected as a pass-through to you. You are responsible for remitting all pass-through taxes to the appropriate jurisdiction in accordance with local regulations and compliance. Further, any tax not collected and remitted on your behalf by Hospitable prior to this date were and will continue to be your responsibility to remit as necessary to state and local jurisdictions and/or tax authorities.

What’s next:

Be sure to keep an eye out for further information related to tax remittance in your location. To keep up-to-date with all the newest changes to tax remittance, follow along in the Hospitable Community or in the How Taxes are Handled in Direct help article.

If you have any questions, you can respond to this conversation or reach out to the Hospitable support team.

Happy hosting! 💜

Glad to see California finally getting some love. Hopefully San Bernardino County is coming soon.
