I am new to hosting and have a potential guest with a failed verification. The recommendation is to host the guest but the review does state 15 accounts. Should I be worried? Can i enforce a security deposit? I can’t afford any downtime in guest turn around as it is peak season and have back to back bookings. What’s the best way to hand a guest in this situation? Appreciate any suggestions or tips. TIA

I wouldn’t read this as suspicious and, especially since they are coming through Airbnb, they have already been verified and largely vetted. We usually don’t do extra guest verification for Airbnb guests (but do sometimes for Booking and always for Direct).

I believe Hospitable just rolled out security deposits for Airbnb if you feel like you need one. Again, Airbnb does a pretty good job of covering damage and, in my experience, is the least risky platform.

What platform did they book through? And what review are you referring to when you say but the review does state 15 accounts? Can you share a screenshot?

Hi Jason,

Thanks for responding. The platform is Airbnb and here is the screenshot. I requested guest verification and this was the outcome from the checks. Now I have to decide if I should let him stay or not. The guest verification is done through Hospitable whom I manage my multiple platforms on.

Any advice or help would be great. :)

There is so many things to learn.

Thanks

Meghan

Ok, Thank you Jason. This helps greatly. I am just a little concerned now as my first 2 guests damaged the property, and I didn’t have security deposits set up so it looks like I will be out of pocket. It’s so disappointing that it only takes a few people to ruin it for everyone. I am still very new to all this and learning as I go. So really appreciate

your insight into this matter.

Cheers

If you had guests who booked through Airbnb and caused damage to the property, just be sure to photograph it very well immediately and file a claim with Airbnb's support through the resolution hub. For minor damage, I've never had trouble with getting payment and finding a resolution that works for everyone.
