How are people handling channel markups with the AirBNB increases, with VRBO, etc.

With the substantial increase in commission for Airbnb, I’m now wondering whether to just eliminate some of my mark ups, given I have a price markup for every channel now. Previously they were all set off of Airbnb Airbnb is now I believe, the highest commission rate. Has anyone gone in and just leveled out mark ups given that price increase?

That is certainly an option. It seems like Booking and Airbnb have quite similar fees. VRBO has a different fee structure, with guest’s still paying part of the fees. The main reason you might still want to have Markups is if you are using Direct. Right now, Direct is sort of my anchor for rates and then everything else is based off of that.

I take a similar approach as Eli in that my direct option is my base price, and the I apply markups accordingly per channel. I’ve done this, especially for Airbnb, so that my net payout isn’t less than previous years.

This makes the direct option more appealing to returning guests or potential new guests.

If you eliminate markups, you’ll just have a lower net payout unless you’re raising your base prices.
