Smart devices just landed in the Hospitable MCP server.

Ask your AI to check batteries, lock up, let someone in, or notify you when something needs attention.

If you’ve connected smart locks or thermostats to a property in Hospitable, you can now access them from any MCP-compatible AI client - including Claude, Cursor, and ChatGPT Desktop - using plain English.

What you can do

We’ve added three new tools:

get-property-devices

View every smart lock and thermostat connected to a property, including live device status like:

  • Battery percentage
  • Online/offline state
  • Locked/unlocked state
  • Current temperature
  • HVAC mode and setpoints

You can also:

  • Filter by device type (locks or thermostats)
  • See any known device issues or errors

lock-smartlock

Direct device action which locks a smart lock

unlock-smartlock

Direct device action which unlocks a smart lock

Both lock actions wait for confirmation from the lock provider (Schlage, Yale, August, and others via Seam) before returning the updated device state. That means you get confirmation the lock actually changed state - not just that the request was sent.

Example prompts

Here are a few prompts hosts are already using:

“Which of my properties have smart locks with batteries under 50%?”

Great for a quick Monday morning check before upcoming check-ins.

“Is the front door at Key West Villa locked right now?”

Useful after a checkout or cleaner visit.

“Unlock the front door at Pine Retreat - my cleaner is outside.”

An easy backup when a keypad or access code isn’t cooperating.

“What’s the thermostat set to at Lakeview Cabin?”

Helpful before guest arrivals.

You can also combine smart device tools with reservation data:

“For my next 5 check-ins, list any properties where the smart lock is offline or below 30% battery.”

One request, no spreadsheet required.

Important note about unlocking doors

Unlocking a door is a real-world security action. Treat it like handing someone your keys.

Your AI client will execute the request if you ask it to, so make sure you’re targeting the correct property. Specific prompts are safer than ambiguous ones:

✅ “Unlock the front door at Key West Villa”
❌ “Unlock the villa”

Requirements

These tools require the Smart Devices entitlement on your Hospitable account - the same entitlement used for smart devices in the Hospitable app.

If you don’t see the tools yet, that’s likely why.

How to enable it

If you already have the Hospitable MCP server connected to your AI client, there’s nothing to set up - the new tools will appear automatically.

Haven’t connected it yet? You’ll find the setup guide in:
