Hi,

I was wondering if you could give an estimated timeframe for adding upsell capability for NZD? I would prefer to use your native option rather than adding additional apps/ subscriptions etc. Thanks!

Hi @SJD, thanks for asking. :)

We don’t have a confirmed timeframe to share for NZD or New Zealand availability just yet, but it is on our roadmap, and actually we should have an answer on timeline very soon. I know this is not an ideal answer, but hopefully it helps.

We’ll announce updates in the Community and product changelog as soon as we have them. 💜

Hi Petra,

just checking back in — it’s been around 3 months and NZD support is still an important factor for us in adopting Upsells natively. In the meantime, we’re seen other PMS platforms like Guesty, Lodgify, Seekom iBex and Hostaway handle built-in automation and upsells in NZD.

If you’re able to share even a high-level sense of whether NZD support is nearer-term or longer-term, it would really help with our planning.

Thanks,

Isaac

Hi @isaac, thanks for checking in. I’m checking with our team, and in the meantime, you can find the workaround here in the conversation until it’s fully available in Hospitable:

Hi @Petra Podobnik  @isaac after a discussion with the 3rd party app they confirmed that they do not support NZD $ at this time.

Ah, thanks for letting us know. Still waiting for a response for our ETA, will get back to you here as soon as I find that out.

Hi @Petra Podobnik have you heard any updates as yet? :)

So what I’ve found is that this is in our plans, but there’s still no ETA yet.

In the meantime, @Derek Jones reached out to a couple of partners that offer upsells to check their availability in New Zealand. Happy Guest does not currently offer that option. We’re still waiting for feedback from Operto. One available option could be Chekin: https://my.hospitable.com/apps/chekin.

We’ve arranged a code for you that gives an additional 10 percent off the monthly plan, or 30 percent off in total on the annual plan: HOSPITABLE.

You can book a meeting directly through this link: https://chekin.com/en/contact-sales

Or reach out via email at: support@chekin.com

I know it is not ideal answer, but we hope this helps for now. 💜

So, I’ve heard back from Operto, and here is what they say.

Generally, they do not currently have that specific feature available. But, for New Zealand customers using Operto Guest Guidebooks, they’ve seen success with a couple of alternative workflows:

  • Viator integration: They can integrate Viator directly into the Guest Portal, allowing guests to seamlessly book tours and experiences
  • Manual upsell requests: The portal can be set up so guests can request specific upsells. The host then approves the request and manually processes the charge through their payment processor

They mentioned they’re not sure whether these options would fully meet your specific needs, but they’d be happy to explore this with you in more detail.

If you’d like to chat with them directly, you can book a time through their calendar here: Book a meeting with Operto here

Thanks @SJD! And thanks for your patience with all the ideas while we develop it on our end.

Our contact says that if the currency is supported by Stripe, it should work. They are checking with their Support.

Hi Petra — really appreciate you checking with the team.

NZD support for native upsells is still a major factor in whether we expand further with Hospitable. Third-party workarounds add cost and operational friction, which undermines the value of an integrated system.

Even a rough sense of whether this is near-term or longer-term would really help our planning. If Stripe compatibility is the path, knowing whether that’s weeks or months away would be great.

Thanks again for the updates.

Isaac

@Petra Podobnik Thanks for the updates — really appreciate the transparency.

One idea that might help accelerate the availability of upsells outside the markets where Hospitable is currently Merchant of Record (such as the US and UK) would be enabling a Stripe-based option.

Since Stripe is already integrated for direct bookings, extending it to support upsells — even in a simplified version — could allow users in other regions (like France or New Zealand) to start using the feature without waiting for the full MoR rollout.

Even if this version had some limitations compared to the MoR setup, it would already remove the need for third-party tools and reduce operational complexity for many hosts.

Is this something the team has considered as an interim solution while upsells are being expanded to more markets?

It took a bit longer, but here’s the latest update.

Stripe integration is expected to launch in Q2 this year, with broader expansion efforts planned for the second half of the year. This will allow upsells in additional currencies, although there’s nothing concrete to share just yet.

We’re actively exploring options to make upsells available to hosts outside of the US as soon as possible.

Hi Petra — thanks for the update.

For us (and likely most NZ hosts), the payment side isn’t the issue. We can already handle NZD payments through Stripe.

What we actually need is the messaging logic and automation behind upsells:

- Triggering offers at the right points in the guest journey

- Applying conditions (length of stay, booking channel, gaps, etc.)

- Delivering a seamless experience without manual back-and-forth

That’s the real value. Payment links alone don’t solve the problem — we’re trying to remove operational friction, not add to it.

Ideally, even a simple version that connects automated messaging with Stripe payments (without full MoR complexity) would cover most of our needs and make upsells immediately usable in NZ.

Do you know if the Q2 Stripe rollout will include this kind of messaging/trigger logic, or is it mainly focused on the payment infrastructure first?

This is a key factor in how we scale with Hospitable, so clarity here would really help.

Hi @isaac, thanks for sharing your perspective. You're right that the messaging and trigger logic is a separate layer from the payment rail.

Here is a bit more context that I hope will help. Hospitable's Direct Premium runs through Adyen, where Hospitable is the Merchant of Record, and Hospitable handles tax calculation, chargeback protection, guest vetting, and so on. Upsells also work here using the same Adyen processes.

Direct Basic runs through the host's own Stripe account, where the host is the Merchant of Record. Hospitable handles the booking flow and guest experience, but the host owns the Stripe relationship and is responsible for taxes, chargebacks, and payouts.

As the upsell payment infrastructure is built around the Adyen merchant-of-record model, replicating that with Stripe means creating a fundamentally different payment architecture, which is a significant project for the team. That's the reason it is taking a bit of time.

On your Q2 question specifically: opening upsells to more regions via Stripe is on the team's radar, but I don't have a confirmed Q2 ETA for it yet. The messaging and trigger engine you're describing is plan-agnostic, so once the Stripe architecture is unlocked, the existing automation logic should apply the same way it does for Adyen-based upsells today.

I hope this clarifies it. 💜
