Hey Fellow Hosts and Property Managers

If you are in a World Cup city, it appears that Airbnb will pay you a referral bonus (and/or a corresponding host account bonus in some cases if you are a property manager) for all new properties brought on board in specific Zips (and postal codes here in Canada) between now and the end of February.

You might be wondering “how is this different than the normal referral program from Airbnb?”. In this case, API-connected hosts (a la you on Hospitable) are ALSO eligible. Under the regular referral program, API hosts are specifically EXCLUDED (BTW - you can ask me how we generally get around that requirement and get rewarded EVERY time we bring on a new account - but that’s a separate tale).

Anyway, if you are in Toronto, Vancouver, Boston, Atlanta, LA, Mexico City, etc (World Cup host cities) check out this referral program from Airbnb.https://www.airbnb.ca/e/fifa-host-referrals

This caught my attention yesterday too! By API host, are you saying that would extend to anytime we connect/onboard a new Airbnb listing owner’s account (given the timeframe and listed zip codes)? Can you elaborate?

Also curious how you get around that requirement generally - I’ve been burned a few times assuming I was on track to receive a referral bonus only to find out it was ineligible without an explanation as to why. Thanks!

@Sam Esecson - Airbnb is measuring it based on use of the referral code to set up a NET new owner account/listing. The referral will pay out as long as the new listing is created BEFORE end of Feb and it receives and completes one booking of $100 USD value or more within 180 days of the listing going live. At this point, I do not believe the incentive to be API exclusive, but rather it is API inclusive (so you are not penalized because you are using Hospitable as you are with the normal Airbnb referral program). Does that make sense?

You can message me at dhillar@casacohost.com. Happy to chat on the referral mechanics generally.
