Um...Grocery delivery taking up valuable real estate on our listings

I had heard talks in other STR groups about this, but had not seen it for myself until now.

So instead of highlighting something about your listing, Airbnb is now highlighting 3rd party services. This is not something you have to opt into. Grocery delivery is just something a guest can do while staying at an Airbnb. It is not a huge deal or any big-time extra thing to advertise, as everyone knows about Instacart / DoorDash, etc.

How do you feel about losing the valuable real estate section and Airbnb replacing it with "Grocery Delivery" advertising?

(Not my listing, so I am hiding the host and link)

Feels like they should let host be able to opt in to sharing that for a small percentage of whatever airbnb is getting.

That is interesting. I haven’t seen it before. I bet they are rolling it out in certain markets, but I can certainly understand who you’re not pleased if it is taking over for a description or feature of your property.

I just saw there was an option to opt in but it looks like it included stocking the groceries for your guests… so that is a pretty heavy lift. Would be curious if anyone actually does this

I opted out of the stocking the groceries some weeks ago when it popped up on my Airbnb dashboard somewhere BUT I just checked my own listings in the same area and the all show this advertisement. The advertisement is not specific to stocking groceries but just ordering them so from what I understand you cannot opt out of ordering or this advertisement.

That makes sense from what I saw just looking at various listings.

I haven’t seen this rolled out in Europe yet, but honestly it’s not great news.

It’s another step toward reducing the space we have to differentiate our listings. If Airbnb keeps pushing more of these third-party services into prime listing real estate, we’ll end up controlling less and less of the guest experience.

At some point, we risk becoming just accommodation providers, while Airbnb owns the full experience through upsells and partnerships. That’s a pretty direct hit on both our margins and our ability to stand out.

Not sure this is a great long-term direction, even for Airbnb.

Yep. Not a good sign. I think it is dependent on the market: I'm not seeing it in Hawaii either. Airbnb tries a lot of things and then abandons them, so we'll see how it goes.
