I am thinking of getting a non-disc based PS 5 or Xbox that has a gaming service subscription for one of my units with a sweet gaming TV in it.

I’d love to hear your thoughts.  Great idea?  See holes?

See something, say something.

Hi Will,

@will.fraser I think any amenity you can provide can only help. Children need entertainment too. Let me know how it goes.

I honestly considered doing this as well at one point, but eventually decided against it.

My main concern was that the Xbox/PlayStation subscription ecosystem still doesn’t feel very stable for STR use:
- long-term value of the subscriptions
- actual access to a broad enough game catalog
- guest profile/account management
- risk of people logging into personal accounts
- controller damage/loss, updates, pairing issues, etc.

So I’m still a bit divided on the idea.

In the end, I chose to invest instead in things that felt more universal and lower-maintenance:
- Netflix and additional TV channels
- books
- board games
- outdoor games/activities
- generally improving the shared entertainment experience

I think consoles can absolutely work for the right property/target audience, but operationally it felt a bit too fragile for me compared to more timeless amenities.

We put an Atari Flashback 7 and an NES Classic in each of our condos. It gets mentioned in our reviews a lot! GenXers love it.

Younger generations seem to tend to schlep their consoles around with them anyway. I feel like whatever I tried to put in would be "mid" compared to what they're used to LOL. Whereas Atari and Nintendo are a bit of a surprise factor, a pleasant bit of nostalgia For some and an interesting retro novelty for others. A Nintendo Wii is probably enough on the vintage side that it could have wider appeal.

But as for the more modern consoles, the people who would appreciate it already have it, and can't live without it, to the extent that they will bring it with them. I remember my own son bringing his Xbox with him to the lake cabin we used to stay at each fall, to our chagrin as parents. They can't even go on vacation without it LOL. We're always finding our HDMI cables rearranged and the icons on our screen messed up LOL.

I agree with @arnaud , I wanted to add some Nintendo Switches, but knowing how guests are with things, it's a no-go. It adds complexity to the cleaning as well.

XBox actually ha an app now that you can get a lot of the games directly on the TV without needing to purchase a console. You just ned controllers that can connect with WIFi

It a great way to add gaming to you listing with very little cost to you.

@Zac that’s fantastic to know!  Do most or all new Xbox controllers work with WiFi and seem compatible with this inbuilt smart TV app from your experience?

Awesome @Blue Sea

Would you mind if I perused your Airbnb listing?  I’d love to learn from how you feature them and how people comment on them :)
