Curious-  i accept payments directly today but considering making the switch

When do guests get charged for their holiday when booking charges them?

We take payment in full at the time of booking but would like to get out of the fraudulent charge back rish (we have had  few problems) and the hassle of processing refunds

Any pros/cons on making the switch?

of course i like the postive cash flow part with the current model

When booking.com is handling the payments they generally charge the guest at whatever point the reservation becomes non-refundable. It follows your cancellation policy. So if you allow cancellations up to 30 days before check-in, and the guest books 9 months in advance, they don't pay anything at all until 30 days before check-in.

It really doesn't matter anyway, It's off your plate and off your mind, they handle it for you and you get your payout after check-in. There's no point in collecting advance payments if it's still refundable. That would just incur additional processing charges when refunding their money.

Personally I have decided that if I'm using booking.com at all, I will always let them handle the payments. They're enough of a nightmare to deal with as it is. The cash flow benefits of handling payments myself do not outweigh the headaches and aggravation for such an archaic platform that does no guest verification and has extremely high cancellation rate and allows guests to book multiple places at once knowing that they will cancel all but one of them.
