Is it possible to generate a 1099 for my owners in hospitable?  If not what is the best way to gather this information for my CPA? I am a co-host for 3 different owners.  I have a separate checking accounts for each owner where the revenue is direct deposited from AIRBNB and VRBO.  I do a monthly ACH to each owner for their monthly revenue minus expenses (owner report here on hospitable.) Do i send the 1099 for the Net Deposited amount (after OTA fees and taxes withheld by VRBO and AIRBNB?)

Hi @Jennygoins! Brandon, the Accountant in Residence, here to help provide some details on 1099 reporting.

Currently, there is not a way to generate 1099s directly from Hospitable for your owners, however there are details and information that you can pull to be able to generate or collect for your CPA.

For Hospitable related financial data (such as Direct bookings or upsells purchased through Hospitable), you can use the following:

  • Annual Earnings Report Summary
  • Annual Earnings Report Details (CSV)
  • Metrics

The annual earnings reports can be found by going to Settings → Taxes → Annual Earnings Reports in your Hospitable account.

For financial data related to other OTAs (such as Airbnb, VRBO, Booking.com), refer to their transactional reports and/or year-end summaries provided to you.

When reporting on any Form 1099, you are required to report the financials as gross earnings regardless of what the payout amount was to you or the owner. If you confirm with your CPA, they can help assist with being sure you have the complete data to be able to complete the forms needed.

Also, myself and @Abby Grous, the Senior Product Manager for Direct, are presenting a 1099 and US Tax Reporting Webinar/Q&A on Wednesday. You can register for that here, if you are interested, and we cover more on 1099s and income reporting!

Hi @Brandon Huetteman , is there a report that drills down to the expenses a particular host pays, for example, an end of year statement with totals? I assume if we give Hosts a 1099-MISC with net fees, they will want expenses to write off.

Thanks,

Jen
